Oregon Scientific Weather Station WMR968 – The Complete Cable Free Weather Station
Dec/090

The Oregon Scientific Weather Station WMR968 is a completely wireless professional weather station and easy to install. It tracks and stores data for over 20 weather conditions and displays them on a touch-screen LCD monitor measuring 8 inches wide by 5.5 inches high. The console features Touchscreen Desktop Control with bright green HiGlo™ backlighting. This home weather station is easy to understand even for children, as well as adult hobbyists, gardeners, campers and fishermen. The console features three outdoor sensors each powered by a solar cell plus added battery backup.
Features
- The Anemometer can attach to a building face, fence or roof, which measures wind speed and direction. It has an operating range of up to 125 miles per hour. Data transmission occurs every 14 seconds and it is also powered by a solar cell with battery backup.
- The Baro-Hygrometer measures indoor temperature and humidity, as well as the barometric pressure. Operating range is 23F to 122F with an accuracy resolution of 0.2F. The Baro-Hygrometer is powered by 4 AAA-sized batteries and can mount on a wall or stand on a desk.
- The Rain Gauge measures rainfall reflecting current rainfall or accumulation of up to nine days history using a self-emptying collection unit. Transmission occurs every 47 seconds. The rain gauge is powered by a solar cell with battery backup.
The touch-screen monitor keeps track of the indoor and outdoor sensors, and also displays local weather/barometric pressure forecasts. Additionally, it has a calendar/clock, an alarm that sounds when sensors detect conditions beyond parameters set by the user, a memory button for retrieving past data, and an AC power adapter. (Its backup battery-power unit requires four AA batteries--not included.)
Of course, the usual limitations apply to this weather station like all weather stations. Things like placing the anemometer close to structures will inevitably affect the wind speed readings, as well as placing the temperature sensor in direct sunlight. One customer notes that the rain gauge is also prone to collecting debris so make sure it is cleaned regularly. These are all intuitive recommendations but are important in getting the most out of your system.
The Oregon Scientific Weather Station WMR968 is selling for$214.57 on Amazon (currently 57% off) and can support three additional remote sensors as well as interface with a PC. Additional sensors, the PC-link software/cable kit, and a long-term data-memory accessory are all sold separately.
